Targets INT saves. That's autofail for quite a lot of things in the Monster Manual.

And in a boss fight - since there is a good chance you know their name, you can cower behind a wall of force or other place of total safety and wear them down.

Can be twinned.

Hmmn maybe. Haven't seen it used.

It did stand out for not being level 8. Think I like it more than Banishment.

But really, Mind Whip, Phantasmal Force, Psychic Lance, Synaptic Static, and Banishment are only 5 prepared spells. There's plenty of space for all of them, and each has their own use.

Along with Mind Sliver

There is also Feeblemind. If you land that, all the rest of your spells will land too. Bit still seem a bit too niche for 8th level.

As well as Maze, but that's wizard only. Though doing all this as a Illusionist seems like a good idea.

They are rare, yes. Also generally weaker effects than other spells to compensate for their higher accuracy.

But all of them are enchantments. So Enchanter wizard may be worth looking at.

Enchanter power crept out and doesn't become good until level 10.

Still gives more than Aberrant Mind. Also there was a UA enchanter. Weakened level 10, but better level 3.

Other options would be Wild sorcerer which adds to any spell, or perhaps something defensive like Dragon sorcerer or War wizard.

We have seen dragon Sorcerers.

Wizards kinda neh until much later.
