Point Buy:

Ability Score // Point Cost
8 // 0
9 // 1
10 // 2
11 // 3
12 // 4
13 // 5
14 // 6
15 // 8
16 // 10
17 // 13
18 // 16

Character starts with a score of 8 in all abilities, then spends points to increase those scores using the chart above.

Typical POINT BUY point totals are 26 - 32. 32 points is what my group always uses, but to be honest, I think it's too high. 28-30 points is in my opinion best, but it it up to the DM.

Our group also uses the pointbuy chart given by thomas.
We also start all abilities with 8, but of course it´s possible to reduce one ability score to 6 or whatever to get more points in another one.
We only use 25 points to create characters.

What would you say is the proper Ability Point cost adjustment for creating characters without Con scores (constructs and undead)?

Reduce the points by one sixth? So a 30 point buy for six abilities would go to 24
for 5, all starting at 8.

No, points should only be reduced by 2. To reduce by 6 would assume that a Con of functional equivalence to 14, meaning +2 HP/lvl, +2 fort, is gained. Since "no con" gives the same effects as Con 10, namely no bonus or penalty, it should be the same as a purchase of 10 con.

But it's not the same as a 10 because the bonus or penalty doesn't really make much of a difference. Character FAILS in most Con-based checks...

Actually, they automatically succeed most Con checks-- those few where they are not immune/exempt, they substitute Charisma.

The only exception to this is Fortitude saves against effects that affect objects. Those they suffer no penalty for their lack of a Con score.
