How does reach scale up?

I was wondering how much reach goes up for a weapon when the weapon gets larger. Assume it's a 10 ft reach weapon normally (a halbred). Thanks for your help.

In 3.0, every size change affects a weapons reach by 5' -- whiel a longspear is 10' reach for a human, an ogrish longspear is 15' reach. Rules for this were presented in both Savage Specis and the Arms and Equipment Guide.

Thus:
  • Large Longspear, 10' reach;
  • Huge Longspear, 15' reach;
  • Gargantuan Longspear, 20' reach;
  • Collossal Longspear, 25' reach,

In 3.5, reach weapons don't have any exact, specified reach ... they simply DOUBLE the wielder's INNATE reach, if the weaponis sized appropriately for the wielder.

So:
  • A human (5' innate reach) wielding a Medium Halberd would have a net reach of 10'.
  • An Ogre (10' innate reach) wielding a Large Halberd would have a net reach of 20'.
  • A Cloud Giant (15' innate reach) wielding a Huge Halberd would have a net reach of 30'.
  • A Gargantuan creature (20' innate reach) wielding a Gargantuan Halberd would have a net reach of 40'.
  • A Collossal creature (25' innate reach) wielding a Collossal Halberd would have a net reach of 50'.

Here is the chart that states the reach in 3.5 of creature of various sizes.

From SRD
Table: Creature Size and Scale
Creature Size Space1 Natural Reach1
Fine 1/2 ft. 0
Diminutive 1 ft. 0
Tiny 2-1/2 ft. 0
Small 5 ft. 5 ft.
Medium 5 ft. 5 ft.
Large (tall) 10 ft. 10 ft.
Large (long) 10 ft. 5 ft.
Huge (tall) 15 ft. 15 ft.
Huge (long) 15 ft. 10 ft.
Gargantuan (tall) 20 ft. 20 ft.
Gargantuan (long) 20 ft. 15 ft.
Colossal (tall) 30 ft. 30 ft.
Colossal (long) 30 ft. 20 ft.
1 These values are typical for creatures of the indicated size. Some exceptions exist.

What about Small?!?

Medium and up has been touched upon, but what about small creatures? They have an innate 5" reach, so if armed with a longspear they should have a 10" reach, correct?

3.5's weapon sizing has seriously reduced the effectiveness of small sized PC's. In 3.0 they couldn't wield most reach weapons (w/o monkey grip) because they were large weapons. Now that they can buy small 'sized' variants of those same weapons they should be able to use them to their best effect. Especially if a tiny longspear allows a pixie to not provoke an AOO when they attack with it (as they don't have to enter their opponent's square).

What happens if they are not using a weapon sized appropriately for the weilder? For example an Ogre weilding a medium sized glaive or long spear.

That's right, Small creatures can now use reach weapons. A halfling with a Small longspear threatens the same area as a human with a Medium longspear.

A Tiny or smaller creature has a natural reach of 0' (its own square only), but can use a reach weapon to attack adjacent targets.
