How Easy is it to Convert d20 Modern Advanced Classes into D&D PrC?

First Post
Unfortunately, money being tight and all, I haven't been able to pick up the d20 Modern book. However, I've seen some pretty good discussion on new Advanced Classes for d20 Modern, and I've looked over the SRD for Modern, but without the actual print in from of me, I'm still a little leery of just grabbing some of the classes floating out here without some kind of idea about what others think. Does anyone have any input on this matter? Does anyone think it would be difficult to translate an Advanced Class into a PrC, or is the moniker Advanced Class just the d20 Modern term for PrC?

i don't believe so. the Advanced Classes can be entered into at fourth level, a little early for a PrC, IMO. and, IIRC, WotC will include Modern PrCs in future supplements

Advanced classes have a different tone than prestige classes. See, an advanced class is like a D&D core class - a fairly specific archetype that is a way of developing a particular, related set of skills and techniques, unlike a basic class, which is just a broad way of making use of your attributes.

So, are Advanced Classes weaker than PrC? From what it sounds like you're saying, the Basic Classes are more or less a soup from which archetypes (Advanced Classes) rise, and that one would be mad to just stay in a Basic Class all the way to 20th level, but one can jump into an Advanced Class on average a bit earlier than the average PrC.

Well, we haven't seen any Modern prestige classes so it's tough to really say how they compare to advanced classes. Perhaps they will finally do with prestige classes what they orginally wanted to do, use them as specialized parts of organizations.

Also keep in mind that the Basic Classes in D20 Modern only go up to 10th level. If I remember correctly.

Has WoTC said they're going to make Modern PrC as well as Advanced Classes? That sounds a little counter-intuitive. So -- one would be a Gunslinger (Fast/Gunslinger), and then join the "National Rifle Association" (a Modern PrC)?

I don't recall the specific source, but I do remember reading that they were. My take on what they will do with prestige classes is just conjecture, and they may stick to the D&D method of using them.

Yes. Urbana Arcana will have PrC's and I can't see the NRA as a PrC <g>.

They aren't in the Main Rulebook as they ran out of space. Still, just like 3e PrC are optional.

I don't think it is counter-intuitive you can have

Tough->Solider->Special Forces
Smart->Mage->ArchMage

BTW, Love the 'soup' explaination. Mind if I 'steal it' for my d20 Modern FAQ?
