How fast do your PCs level up?

My groups vary a bit with how often they level but it's usually 1 level gained every 2 to 5 sessions (each session is roughly 4 to 6 hours, so approximately 8-30 hours).

I had a campaign (my longest thus far) go from level 1 to level 24 over the course of three years.

The speed was simply set by what I needed to add to an encounter to make it truly challenging and interesting. Thus, the party usually levels really really fast. I'm considering remodeling the exp tables for my games after a more 2e-type approach where leveling gets really slow later on. I'm also considering adopting a simple "they level when I think it's time for them to level" philosophy.

My answer is similar to Ahnehnois. We level up every session almost, though it isn't for any philosophical reason. We just play fast and hard, we're power gamers, and we love challenges. This all adds up to a super-fast advancement until epic level is reached. If we decide to continue into epic play (we currently have a standing epic level game) it really becomes more about the story, but we still level up about twice as fast as a "normal" epic level game.
