How high can YOU get your HP?

Just using 3.5 core rules (no custom items) to bring a character to 20th level, PHB races/classes, what's the most HP you can get? Assume you roll max HP every time you level and focus only on getting as many HP as possible.

How high can you get?

I'm thinking a 20th level Dwarven Barbarian.
CON=
20(first)
21(4th)
22(8th)
23(12th)
24(16th)
25(20th)
30(Manual +5)
36(Amulet of Heath +6)
40(raging)

Feats: Toughness (x7)

HP:
240 (levels)
300 (CON)
21 (toughness)
=
561 HP!

Isn't there Mighty Rage for the barb at 20th level? 4 extra con for 601 hp, IIRC. I think it was +8 to con total, not sure though.

That ain't nothing. Look up the Frenzied Berserker PrC in Masters of the Wild, and the various improved toughness (Dwarf, Dragon, etc.). Take one of those every chance you have, and Frenzy and go Berserk, and you can easily get into the high 100s-200s at 10th level. Not even mentioning magic items that add to your CON.

tetsujin28 - Frenzy doesn't add to Con.

diaglo - You get access to epic feats at 21st, rather than 20th. Epic Toughness adds +20 hp each time it is taken.

20th level Dwarven Barbarian, max hp rolled per HD (12x20= 240). Hmm. 20/+5 con at start, +5 from advancement points to 25/+7 at 20th, a +5 manual of health bumps it to 30/+10, and a +6 Con item gets it to 36/+13. Might Rage gives a further +8 to Con while raging, boosting it to 42/+16. 16x20=320. An item of False Life maxed out could give +20 Hp while worn. Improved Toughness feat from Complete warrior would add 1hp/hd, so +20 more there. You could spend your other 6 feats on Toughness at 3hp/feat, for a total of +18 hp for all 6. So yeah, 240+320+20+20+18 = 618 hp as it stands.

There's gotta be a more efficient way to gain hp from feats than Toughness at 3hp a pop though. There's just gotta be.

I think that 3 hp from Toughness is rather weak, so took a cue from NeverWInter Nights CPRG and made the house rule that Toughness adds +1 hp per level. The way I see it is that more hit points means that the characters can last longer and I can throw tougher stuff at them :)

When we first started playing the 3rd edition, a friend of mine made a 3rd level Dwarven Sorcerer. started with 18 CON, +2 for Dwarf and +2 for Toad familiar (3.0 rules) for a total of 22 CON or +6 hit poins per die. His 3rd level Sorcerer had 30 hit points!!

Okay, took a look at the MotW Toughness Plus feats. They're 3.0, so take 'em or leave 'em, but here's the breakdown.

Dwarf's Toughness gives +6hp/feat, and requires a +5 base fort save to take it. It's available from 6th level and up.

Giant's Toughness gives +9hp/feat, and requires a +8 base fort save to take. It's available from 12th level and up.

Dragon's Toughness gives +12 hp/feat and requires a +11 base fort save to take. It's available from 18th level and up.

So going for optimal Hp-to-Feat exchange, it'd look like so:

1st: Improved Toughness (+1hp/HD)
3rd: Toughness (+3hp)
6th: Dwarf's Toughness (+6hp)
9th: Dwarf's Toughness (+6hp)
12th: Giant's Toughness (+9hp)
15th: Giant's Toughness (+9hp)
18th: Dragon's Toughness (+12hp)

So at 20th, you'd have a total of ( 20+3+6+6+9+9+12= ) 65hp from Toughness style feats.

Belbarrus - Re: NWN style toughness: Yeah that's what I did too, before Complete Warrior came out and threw Imp. Toughness into the mix. I'm currently trying to think up a way to reconcile the two and still have them both worth taking. +3hp/feat just isn't enough, as far as I'm concerned.
