I use background music almost all the time, but I don't spend a lot of time on it. I don't worry about what kind of music is playing at what point of the game, that's an unnecessary headache that the players don't care much about. I know there could be some 'ooh' factor involved, but it's not with the effort that can put to use preping the actual game.

I find it depends on what game I'm running. For most fantasy games, I use a little theme music pulled from various soundtracks, but I don't usually put a lot of effort into it.

For any Star Wars game, I use a lot of music pulled from the movies. SW games just wouldn't feel right if they didn't open with the classic SW theme.

About six hours of work for a five-minute file, but MAN was it fun.

At last count, over the last year and a half of this game, I've collected and used 135 separate tracks and made about 10 of my own from other pre-existing files.

I'm with you. It might sound like a headache to a bunch of people, but the more i can get absorbed into the intracacies of an adventure, the better i can convey it to players. Sound is one the methods. Not essential, but a useful tool.

Can I play in your game, Nebulous?
Unfortunately I live on Earth. ;)
