How is savage tide path shaping up?

I've played 1.5 adventures in STAP and have DMed 4 adventures in AoW. STAP is fun, but AoW is better, IMO (from what I've seen thus far).

thanks folks, not sure how to get PCs off island and onto pirate ships but
ill look closer at Sea Wyrvens wake and Tides of Dread

other opinions?

Well, I'll break with the pack. Background: I am playing Shackled City right now, I collected Age of Worms with the idea of running it, and am doing the same with Savage Tides.

I am enjoying SCAP, albeit we are playing the book not the Dungeon modules. I like the fact that you get to see disparate threads drawn slowly together to reveal the scale of the threat. Lots of different foes, acting for different reasons.

AoW started interestingly, but then appears to get stuck in a rut. By having a definite foe involved from pretty early on it seem to repeat itself interminably. I know some can't help getting off on having ancient Greyhawk references resurrected, but they hold zip interest to me. So all told - to me - AoW is the weakest Adventure Path.

STAP is interesting in so far as it involves so far a very natural progression of action, and uses the environment well. My only 2 concerns are that

(i) it might feel a bit too much of a rail road to the players; after the early stages if the players want to act outside the framework of the adventures it might be tricky to fold them back into the adventures;

(ii) from a personal perspective I don't like adventures that cut PCs off from civilization for so long; it deprives them of options.

All this said: I am very glad for the APs; they've raised the bar of standards required for a decent campaign.

I have the SC hardcover and AOW and am enjoying ST so far. Having played or been behind the screen in all the paths I would say ST has been the most fun so far for me its more upbeat and high adventure. SC's Cauldron is a cool place but the dungeons are too much for our group who don't paticulary like dungeon crawls much. AOW was fun and the drama revolving around the end of the world made for some intense roleplaying. The themes in AOW's did get a little samey for me after a while but I suppose the players didn't mind as they were engaged by the storyline so much.

If I had to choose between them I would say ST is the better path.

I've just finished running Chapter One for my tabletop group and am partway through running it online. It's been absolutely excellent so far.

Having read through the succeeding chapters, the one I'm most looking forward to is Sea Wyvern's Wake. It looks to be about the best-structured 'journey' adventure I've seen, with plenty of variety and loads of NPC interactions along the way.
