He doesn't seem to have had much difficulty dealing with soldiers and nobles on level terms, or to have been unpopular. While there were undoubtedly exceptional warriors who weren't leaders, there doesn't seem to be any reason why an exceptional warrior wouldn't also be a leader too. And indeed in 1e/2e, they could be.</blockquote>
