How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

By design and intent every class is very worthwhile "in a fight". The fighter concept is about individual martial combat. It works just fine.</p><p></p><p></p><p>You can have a very reasonable debate about the balance between the fighter and the barbarian.
