The trick is to realize that they are wrong, and its not worth your energy to save them from how wrong they are.

And then mouse over their avatar, and 'Ignore' for the sin of how wrong they are.
I only ignore in very rare cases. I think most folks posting here have something interesting to contribute.

Yeah, I think so as well, right up to the point where they make it clear that they are going to grind the same axe and its not one I care to hear about after the Nth time.

At which point, they already have said their piece, I dont need to read it again.

I make liberal use of the ignore feature so I am less likely to stank up forums arguing with folks with whom I am unlikely to create productive discourse. Most folks have something more interesting to contribute than arguing with me!

I understand. I only ignore someone if I feel that they are a troll or purposely hateful.

If the title catches my attention then I’ll read the first page and the last page. Only if I think I’ll reply will I try and skim through other pages of the thread to avoid saying something already mentioned.

If I see a thread is the same 3-5 people posting back and forth, I’m out. Whether they’re arguing or just getting last word or even just joking back and forth, doesn’t matter because at that point I either don’t care about their argument or feel like I’m watching a private conversation that is in a public space

Very rarely will I revisit a thread I post on (unless I asked an active question of course) so I guess my thread tolerance really is ‘ hit it and quit it:)

It really depends. Sometimes I'll post once, a few times in a thread, sometimes more. Generally, I'm out after a few hours and unwatch it. I really wish there was a way to block threads that I know I'll never post in because I have no interest in the topic. Also, if I open a thread and the first post reads like a dissertation, I don't even bother reading it. I always laugh when someone likes or comments on a thread of mine that's months or years old.

It's going to be funny when this thread exceeds the size that most people say they bounce off of threads at.
More like it will become something of a surprise for some who didn't think the topic would go beyond its' Best by Used 'Date'. As some people will assume that the topic would last X number of days before it would disappear for good from the main page. Then that final day comes and go, and the thread is still trending. ;)
