How long do Walls of Stone & Iron last? The title says it all, are they perm. effects? Or do they have a duration? I don't have my PH with me & I need to know. Also what would be the weight per cubic ft. of each wall (in pounds please)?

They are permanent.

They are more than permanent, they are non-magical once created, and can't be dispelled the way a "Permanent" magical effect can be.

There are web sites out there that have the mass values for both normal stone and iron. I have one bookmarked on my other computer, I'll post it late tonight if no one else has by then.

Thanks in advance for the sites Caliban.

Second question why would people mine for Iron ore, & go to the trouble of proccessing it if Mages & Sorc. can just create pure iron sheets/slabs/blocks? Same goes for Stone wall, why quary?

Because characters of high enough level to cast those spells generally have better things to do. One casting of a 5th-level spell goes for about enough money to pay for 5 man-years of common labor, IIRC.

Ah! But the time & lives saved... Seems odd I'd think. More of my NPC Mages are going to have Iron Clad Strong holds, & doors ect. ect.

Time and lives saved are not necessarily the forces that drive economics.

That said, the issue you're discussing is covered in The Stronghold Builder's Guide, as I recall.

Note that creating a wall of iron is not quite the same as incorporating that wall into a keep. There's be some interesting engineering and labor involved to incorporate said wall into a structure, I'd wager.
