PS Shouldn't this be a poll, perhaps with 3-year brackets from the late 1970s, and a "before 1976" (or whatever year is before the D&D blue books came out)?

Unfortanetly I cannot say I have been playing RPG's for as long as most everyone here... but here is a break down

I was born 1982
console RPG's (Nintendo, etc) - 1988 (my aunt was a big video game player)
computer RPG's - 1991
table-top RPG's - 1992

and that is how it goes

1983, I think was my first game. I didn't play on a "regular basis" until aroud... um... 1986? I also think a poll would be nice.

Got the Basic (red box) D&D set for my birthday in 1982.

Summer of 1980 here! I remember getting invited to fill in a spot playing OD&D during lunch breaks. Played that for a while then I remember getting the D&D Basic Set for Christmas...
