I doubt WotC would publish a book unless they felt it was good and saleable, so the question for those with that discerning caveat might require a bit of conjecture in regard to how much they are likely to find to their own personal tastes.

As long as they maintain the current level of quality, I'll buy 'em. I expect the hardest sell in this regard will be the DMGs, but I didn't expect the DMG2 to be as good as it was, so who knows?

I bought the Player's Handbook I, Dungeon Master's Guide I, Monster Manual I, and one year of DDI. That is probably all I will buy of 4e.

I voted 2 cycles. I am actually more intrigued in cycle number, say, 5 or 6 than 3 , hoping that such numbers will explore new roads and alternate rules for those of us who like the 4E innovation but are bored by it's slow (IMHO) combat mechanics and look for different options in the same menu.

I bought most of the first cycle (except Primal and Martial power) and bought the PHBII and MMII. I am pretty sure I will get MMIII and maybe MMIV, but that will be it, unfortunately. I like 4E, but not enough to fill another bookcase of it.

The decision is not based on number but content. As such, no answer would be of any use.
This.

I would also add to it "as well as how much I would be able to use". PHBs are less useful if you don't get to play, etc.

Lemon Curry. The decision to buy or not depends on the content of the books, not the number in the title.

Well said.

I currently own the core rulebooks (PHB1, DMG1, and MM1 - I don't give a crap what WotC says, anything beyond those three is not core), plus PHB2 and MM2.

I will probably buy PHB3 for the sake of the Dark Sun setting. I might get DMG2 for the rules on removing magic items. Beyond that? Answer hazy, try again later.

Interesting split of the EnWorld community:

The "none at all" and "all supplements forever" options have the exact same amount of voters at this moment, with "Lemoncurry" barely above them...

+1 Lemon Curry. Y'know, I need to try Lemon Curry some day -- sounds really zesty!

But yeah, so far it's been buying based on what I felt the interest in, and very pick and choose at that. Once I have my psionics, I'm not sure what I'm going to want from 4E off-hand...
