How many doses of poison can be smeared on a weapon?

It does matter, because if you could multiple doses on a blade, you could smear it with 4 different poisons and do damage to 4 different stats.

I think the intent is that it's not possible. I have no idea what the specific rules text says.

Would you allow a two-bladed weapon to have two doses of poison, one on each blade?

I don't see why not, since in essense it is like fighting with two weapons.

Neither do I, but it seems similar to the "1 potion per round" ruling- even if you swig, say, 4 times the volume of magic potions in one round you only get the effect of 1 (first one ingested; potions don't mix)

I'd allow it. For (almost) all purposes two-bladed weapons are treated like two separate weapons.

Ah, I didn't think of that. I'll modify my statement thus:
It doesn't matter how many doses of poison are applied to a blade. After a single hit all of it will be wiped off without any additional benefit from dose 1 to (n-1).

IOW: The last poison applied wins, the previously applied doses are wasted.
