Assuming standard Medium sized enemies occupying 5x5 squares, you could hit up to 16 of them on a flat plane (or 64 if you managed to happen upon that many creatures in a perfect cube).

For 64 they'd have to be tiny or transparent or something for you to be able to see the target point in the centre of the cube
