How many of you have made your own RPG?

Well, looks like yesterday's post of mine never reached EnWorld. I'll make it short this time:
I developed several rpg systems one of which was successfully played for a couple of years. I've also been doing a lot of 'modding'. I'm also a collector of rpg systems with innovative rules.

Fiddling with rpg mechanics and math is great fun for me. Actually, sometimes it's more fun than actually playing the game.

Most of my design efforts have been devoted to tinkering with D&D - and some versions that I've foisted onto my players probably deserve to be considered new games. Abject failures, but still new games.

I've only actually attempted one ground-up sort of new RPG. It was intended to be an adaptation of the X-com computer game. Never got far with it because my concept for the game actually required building a lot of 3d game environments. Also, I couldn't find monster and PC troop minis I liked. Ah, but it would be GLORIOUS if I ever did it. :)

I have indeed. I wrote a LARP.

I wanted to larp, but I didn't like the rulesets that I could find online. I wanted something that was more like D&D. So I wrote the book myself.

Now that my friends and I have played for the last sevenish years (one or two events a year), I'm in the middle of the second major rules revision, and it's going very well.

It's d20 based, the ability scores are the same as 3.5, the skills are like a combination of skills and feats, and the combat and spells are adjusted to be played live. There's still a lot of bugs to be worked out, but it's my baby, and I love it.

As far as publishing...I'm not sure. Though I think the game is fun enough and the rules, once polished, will be solid, it might be too hard to make it work with a d20 liscense and too similar to D&D to be entirely kosher. I would have to do a lot of research and whatnot, and if I DO, it will likely be just a small time thing that I'll bring a couple copies of the book to the conventions I attend as a guest, and try to convince random passersby that there is NOTHING more fun than running around in the woods whacking your friends with swords made from pool noodles and duct tape.
