How many wizards does it take to screw in a lightbu- I mean, kill Elminster?

What makes a wizard turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or was he just born with a heart full of neutrality?

"Your neutrality sickens me!"

You cannot kill Elminster.

Regardless of how hard you hit him, he will be back at full health in the next edition of the Forgotten Realms.

Take a mid- to high-level monk, give him a Ring of Spell Storing with Anti-magic Field and Teleport. A Belt of Battle is nice, but not required.

1) Teleport next to him
2) Anti-magic Field
3) Grapple

T-A-G, he's out.

Such simple tactics won't help at all against Elminster... even if you manage to win initiative (otherwise we can safely assume that the monk is toast) and the grapple (not at all an automatic win, since Elminster is also a fighter among other things), and even if you kill him, it won't matter. He's a wee bit more powerful than that, simple death won't stop him at all, just delay him for a few hours, as he is instanteneously (the effect is even nonmagical at that point, so no AMF preventage) restored in a safe location with body and mind intact... a lich is nothing against Elminster. ;)

So how, exactly, can someone be returned from death in a distant "safe" location, without resorting to magic? I call DM Fiat on that one, in which case this entire exercise is pointless. DM Ed Greenwood wins, thanks for playing.

Kill him, cut his pinky off, use it for a Clone spell locked in a cage, and wait for him to go mad and keep coming to you to kill his clone. Wash, rinse, repeat. That way, he's stuck in a madness loop, and he's as good as dead.

Oh, and animate his corpse and stick it in Temporal Stasis.

What are your ideas?

It just takes one.

The one who summons Cthulu to kill Mystara and changes the nature of FR magic so that it drives everyone with magic power insane.

And since it's Cthulu, you don't even need a powerful wizard -- probably some greedy farmer who stumbles on a tome of mad logic while plowing his field.

Kill ole El isn't easy, but doable. Just play an epic level bard, and convince all of the dieties (use UMD and scrolls of Gate to establish contact) that ole minsty has got to go. Free cool points if you can get Ao in on it.
