How much do you use subraces?

One thing I DON'T like about the MM subraces is that, after the DMG guidelines to "avoid making the same climatic version of all races", they actually made a subterranean evil-oriented subrace for everyone. Drows, Duergars, Deep Gnomes, Deep Halflings...

Ummm, every single one of those subraces existed before the 3.0/3.5 DMG was written, so it's not like they made them up and broke their newly written guideline.

Yes, it's possible. Many of the other subraces are very interesting anyway, just see them as variations to PHB races.
