How much is a monster corpse worth?

I recommend that you read "Variant: Power Components" on DMG p. 96. The only book-suggested method for rewarding specific monster parts in item creation is to offset the XP expense -- with a market valuation based on maybe XP x 10 or something.

One of the things that I never understood was how you could afford to buy 500 dragon hearts at level... 8, was it?

Do dragons have multiple hearts, or is killing them just that easy?

In the MIC and may be the PHB there are spells needing dragon parts worth 100 or more gp like claws horns and such.
One spell needs claws from dragonwings but I haven't books near me.
A global value between 1000 and 5000 gp seems right for a dragon, his hide can be damaged, claws broken and so on.....
