How much is Giants of Legend going to cost?

As mentioned in a nother thread, I got the May-August WotC catlog yesterday.

The catalog, which the FLGS owner only got a week ago, has two seperate packs for the Giants of Legend D&D minis expansion (a normal one with 8 minis and a huge one with 4 normals minis and one huge), both retailing for US$9.99.

In this thread thalmin says he got a pre-order form sayign they would be $19.99.

So what the hell is going on? How many packs will there be? How much will they cost? And why can't WotC get it straight?

If you go to the WoTC site, the price is quoted at $9.99 US. Here are a few other interesting tidbits (copied from the ad):

The Huge Pack contains a randomized selection of figures designed to expand any collection of Dungeons & Dragons miniatures. Figures in this set are chosen directly from key D&D titles, including the Miniatures Handbook, Expanded Psionics Handbook and the new Eberron Campaign Setting. Also, in honor of the 30th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons, the set contains characters and creatures made popular during the history of the game. [[that sounds interesting to me...anybody have any ideas what that might mean?]]
In addition, one of the twelve miniatures are much larger than any miniatures released to date and are representative of classic, larger-than-life D&D icons such as giants and dragons.

Huge Pack components:
  • Nine randomized, pre-painted plastic miniatures, including one huge miniature.
  • Statistics cards for each miniature.

The product line features:
  • 72 unique miniatures in the Giants of Legend set, inlcuding 12 huge-sized creatures.
  • Miniatures are pre-painted plastic, and are built to standard hobby scale (30mm).
  • All D&D miniatures packages are randomized and made up of rare, uncommon, and common figures.
  • Every miniature can be used to add dimension to roleplaying games or to play skirmish-level or mass-battle combat scenarios.

Yeah, but the website is notoriously inacurate.

It means that there will be old iconic characters and creatures. The gaming report gama pics showed a bulette. The box art work has a wizard on it that people suspect will be mordikanen. That sort of thing.

The Wizards catalogues are also notoriously unreliable.

One pack, Olive. One pack. $20 according to Wizards at GAMA, but that might change.

Cheers!

If that $20 price tag is correct, that'll be too bad. I'll pretty much have to skip 'em; couldn't afford to buy very many, and given the random nature, there's not much point or fun in buying just a few. :-/

I questioned the WotC representatives at the GAMA Trade Show about the pricing ($19.99 confirmed), and expressed my concerns on the price. They still believe this product will be a hit. It is still possible they will change their minds AGAIN, but I wouldn't count on it. (The huge figures do look great.)

It's just annoying for the poor FLGS guy who is getting screwed by WotC Australia because they can't stay up with new information...

Bad!

Ouch. $20 a pop is a bit much. I bought some Harbinger & Dragoneye today, since I got my tax return, but I normally only buy one expansion a month or so. This may make me have to cut down even more. Or just do more purchases of Dragoneye and Archfiends instead...
