How much subdual can YOU do ?

Aven

First Post
I was reading MotW and i saw the new +1 weapon enhancement that converts a weapon's damage type to subdual and add a nice 1d6 kick while it's at it. This prompted me to wonder (and ask) "Just how much subdual damage could a character dedicated to doing subdual inflict on some hapless (non-immune to subdual) creature ?" Let's, munchkin, twink, and min/max for all we're worth. :D

Revision: More interested in low level characters doing lots of subdual, sorry, should have specified. For instance, a 4th lvl fighter with an 18STR, a +1 quaterstaff enchanted to do subdual , and TWF and Ambidex feats make two attacks at 2d6+7subdual each. Throw in his max of eight power attack points, and that's 26 - 46 subdual if both attacks hit. (they might not, from the power attack, but here's hoping, eh? ) *POW* Take that, orc-chief!

well, let's say he is a sneak attaking rogue, who also has holy/unholy on the weapon, and flaming/frost/shocking and it's +1 ( for a total value of +5 with the mercyful added on). he has a str of 14, and is level 19. (realistic weapon for such a high lev character i would say) and it's a greatsword (he took the feat). thats 2d6+4 +10d6 +2d6 +1d6, +1d6 equaling 16d6+4 points of subdual damage max 100 if it's not critical. that's the best i can do off the top of my head.

Min/max threads traditionally go into the Rules forum. You'll probably get more responses there as well.

Exhausting is just a rehash of Mericiful, hence not really a new weapon ability. You can do as much subdual damage as you deal regular damage so its not really a new puzzle.

Wait. MotW has a +1 special ability for weapons that converts all damage to subdual and does +1d6 damage, too? What's the catch? Is it unable to inflict normal damage, like Merciful?

I believe there's a rule (or house rule?) that any subdual damage done over the amount needed to drop a creature unconscious becomes normal damage. In such a situation, a massive amount of subdual damage can be just as deadly as the real thing!

Example: Last session our ranger/arcane archer was taken over by a ghost. The party tried to knock her unconscious with subdual damage. My rogue, (with Improved Unarmed Strike and Improved TWF,) was flanking, and hit three times for 15d6+3d3+6 damage that I thought was subdual. Only the ranger had already taken some subdual damage. Wound up doing 30+ real damage!
