How much use did you get from D&D 3.0e?

Hmmm... DMd from level 1-15, 3-9, and 1-3. Played from 2-8, 4-8, 2-3 (still playing all of these, one far more often than the others). I've also run a few one shots... That adds up to about 40 levels, I guess...
I really like the rate of advancement. Every level you get cool new abilities and you get to face cool new challenges. Of course, my campaigns never last more than a year or two, so I'd never see the upper levels if you didn;t advance quickly.
Anyway, I certainly feel as though I've gotten my $60 worth for the books. I can't imagine how many hours of enjoyment 40 levels of game time (and planning) adds up to...

I played from 1st to 9th lvl Druid during which time the PHB and MM got extreme use (However the DM will probably stay with 3.0)

I DM'd 3 one session games so my DMG is still relatively fresh and unused.

Therefore I probably wasted my money on the DMG but being an odd time D&D DM I had to get it. I must say I have more books on my shelves that have seen a lot less use though.

I didn't mind getting the new books. I knew a lot of what was being revised beforehand thanks to these boards and as long as the money goes towards Wizards releasing more fine products then I have nothing to complain about.

So how did you fare with 3e, how many levels advanced?
My players' characters have advanced from levels 1 to about 10 in just under 2.5 years (we use slow advancement), gaming for 8 hours biweekly, like clockwork (missing only on account of death and/or christmas).
Did you get enough of it before 3.5e?
Nope, not even close. Everyone's PHBs are still in pristine condition.
Should WotC recognise this as a new rule of thumb when designing new Core sets - a year per campaign, three campaigns per Core edition?
Nope. I certainly don't fit in those demographics.

Since my group has 3 DM that use different rates of advancement I prefere to measure the usage in hours of game time. Allowing for breaks and special gaming weekends. (Start Friday night an game most of the weekend) we averaged 8 hours a week. 52 weeks a year for 3 years. For a total of 156 weeks or 1222 hours, but since all three of my family games that actual means we as a family got over 3666 hours of gaming good out of 3.0.

Primary group that meets roughly 1 time per week went from 1st to 12th. Just restarted recently and have gone 1st to 3rd there. Converted a monthly campaign (which went from 1st to 5th) under 2nd ed rules over to 3rd edition which is now around 8th level. Particpated in 2 campaigns as a player and went from about 1st to 5th in each of those before they ended for various reasons. DM'ed a 1-shot around 14th level.

Not nearly as much mileage as I got out of either 1st or 2nd edition, but then again, I'm older now, married, and it's a lot harder finding time to play regularly.

I had a lot of enjoyment from gaming in the last three years, which would be hard to measure, but between reading, writing, playing and other sundry gaming related activities (such as painting, drawing, etc.) I'd say my expenditures on the gaming materials break down to less than a nickel an hour. :)

(...much less if I included general discussions online and off... ;) )

Not much at all. I bought the 3.0 PHB in May and just joined a group at that same time. I've known about DnD forever (played many CRPGs) but just recently got started in tabletop.

On the up side, I haven't been around long enough to get too attached to the 3.0 rules - and I like the fact that everyone in my group has to start over in learning - now we will all be on the same page.

on average i buy roughly $60 worth of gaming stuff per month.

so that breaks down to about $2 per day. i'm online 8 hrs and work on my ideas about 2 hrs off line so $0.20/ hr for me. :D

of course only a very small portion of that is the latest ed.;)

I ran two campaigns over the course of three years, one which went from 1st to 9th level, and the other from 1st to 7th. Now that I think about it, it seems like it went a lot faster than it really did.
