How much would I have to pay the toy companies...

...to stop wrapping everything in hundreds of wires? I mean, seriously, if it stops 20 or so little pieces of big toys from being stolen per year, can I pay them for those 20 pieces and get them to CUT IT OUT!?!?

I don't think it's about theft as much as it is about securing the parts for transportation so they don't get tossed around the interior of the boxes and break or get lost.

And, to make sure that it stays in the proper, pretty place in the box for display.

Cutting it out is exactly what I do. One pair of wire cutters and those wraps are no longer quite as frustrating (except for toy cars where they wrap them around the axles). I do untwist a few and keep them. They have proven to be great for hanging some outdoor Christmas decoration on my fence, or fastening closed my tomato cages (very important to keep the killer tomatoes contained).

Its all about the theft otherwise a molded clear package would work like they used to use.

So what did you get?
Molded plastic is not as environmentally friendly as post-consumer cardboard and some wire wraps. It might be more expensive as well, but I don't know for certain.

Little people Zoo Train for the Kahuna Meatball. Wires wrapped tight around the little animals, running through the wheels, inexplicably taped to the back... I'm still having flashbacks.... :(

I too am a parent whose child likes toys of a moving plastic nature - Doctor Who action figures in his case. I share your pain and damaged nails :(
