Hey you wise-ass kid!! Respect yer elders! Y'know when I started playing D&D there were no dice! Nope. We had to make 'em ourselves. It took me 6 months to whittle out a d20!! And what's all this "4th-level" stuff? "4th-level?" We only had three levels - and we were happy to get 'em!

Just turned 30 in December. Played my first D&D game with the Basic rules when I was in 5th grade. So, that would have been '82-'83. Didn't play again for another 5 years or so (first ed.).
