How portable is Geanavue to other settings?

Personally I LIKED Interludes (mainly because of the interplay between the characters AND the NPCs) Not to mention the fact it has some great ways of addressing character levels and character party intergity.

Any chance Klugie you just slip me a peak for the measly price of my soul (it's a rental. The my old one had to go back to Orcus and Vangal to play with! ;))

The production values (art & layout) were so amateur it could barely hold my attention. I skimmed it, said "what's all the fuss about?" and dropped it back on the shelf, shaking my head, utterly perplexed by all the hoopla. :(

I'm aware it has its fans, but I just "don't get it." If it doesn't look good, I can't be bothered to read it, no matter how great the actual text is supposed to be... :rolleyes:

OK. This is a rare opportunity, so make the most of it.

Even I find the Reanaarian language faintly irritating. But then, that is a very real drawback to creating six different racial characteristics for humans, including to each their own language. Thinking about our own world, do we not have diacriticals marks to make Czech look completely different to French, which is different again to German or English, and that is excluding those languages with their own scripts such as Greek and Russian. These, of course, are just the Western Tradition languages -- what about Thai, Chinese and Urdu, etc.

And as for place names, well, back in reality:

In Wales they have a town called Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyll-llantysiliogogogoch (and that's only a hundred miles or so from England, over land!) [makes Xaarum look a bit tame, yes?]

In New Zealand, there's a Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu [OK, how's that for vowel city!]

and Bangkok has the delectable:

Krungthepmahanakonbowornratanakosinmahintarayudyayamahadiloponoparatanarajthaniburiromudomrajniwesmahasatarnamornpimarnavatarsatitsakattiyavisanukamphrasit

So don't come the sweet prune with me, and tell me that made up village names look silly on Kalamar!! The whole world's mad, and that's why we love it.

To answer your initial question, Geanavue is simple to port to other settings. We deliberately kept the magic level low so it would be easy to use for low AND high magic fans. In our experience, it is easier to toss in a few levels and magic items, then remove them (creating power voids, etc.).

As far as the names go, simply change them to match the language of the area in which you are placing the city.

And to set the record straight, the following names:

I do have to confess, though, the Steam Gnomes (a Bluffside race) have insane names. They're all 19 letters long (there's a reason for that), but other than that, most of the names are normal.

Nightfall, gee, I don't know. What's it worth to ya? :)

Bluffside, will hopefully appeal to everyone as a solid generic city setting. It should be in stores by the end of this week (crosses fingers). All preorders have been shipped and they arrived at the warehouse about 2 weeks ago, so...any day now. I urge everyone, people who did and did not like Interludes: BEtB to check it out, I think you will all be pleasantly surprised. I would love to see feedback once you all get a chance to see the product.

But the names are cool. Andrew, one of our writers, was just great at names. "Kiki McGurk" was one of my favorites. Even weird things have normal names like "Carl, the Gray Ooze". I know there were some others that were cool, but I'm drawing a blank now. Definitely NOTHING like what you described. Jeez!

See, I like Carl the Gray Ooze. If he answers to his name, that's even cooler!

I'm very curious about the rumor system in this supplement...how portable is /that/ to other cities/worlds?
 

The RumourQuest encounter system is hard to port in its entirety because it uses specific names, places and NPCs (the whole point is to get the players involved in the city). They remain card stock hand outs with prose, any way you slice it. If you want to go through the trouble of either (a) using white-out over the names and replacing with your own or (b) retyping them with your own placenames, et al, it could work.
