How similar am I to you?

Cutting back on gaming when you don't have to? Isn't that like choosing to only breath once every ten heartbeats, or deciding that 6 hours of sleep is for the lazy, or for the love of god, cutting back on pizza? (That last was even hard to type.)
I know gamers who are vegetarians or on low carb diets, and one who's allergic to cheese. Little to no pizza for them.

Well, reviewing a few books a week like I do takes time and feels like gaming. And pizza is something I have maybe once every two weeks since I did drastically cut back on it.

You can get pizza with no cheese. I had a friend that is allerigic to dairy so we would have cheeseless pizzas. It was odd, but good.

Oh, I know, that's why I said "little to no pizza," not "none at all." And, especially during games, we'd order pizza not make our own.

Pizza places will make you a pizza without cheese too, so you could still order out for a cheeseless pizza.

We dagos here on the East Coast call that Tomato Pie....sorta like pizza, but a little different sauce, and square, like Sicilian Pizza...

During the early to mid eighties I had friends try to get me into gaming but I flat out refused. I felt there was no creative release in it (was I ever wrong). When I reached college another group of comicbook collecting friends tried a nicer way.

Keep in mind- one was the owner of the shop-

"Here is the Dungeoneer's guide. Look it over. Sit in on a game. If you want try it. If you like it- KEEP the book."

My character was still being rolled up when he died (damned ghouls) and I have played ever since. That was 1989 around August or September.

I came into a sizeable inheritence of which I bought first a large JVC component stereo system then began beefing up my DnD collection. It was solely TSR and Torg I bought then. Next item with inheritence was a car so that I could get to gaming much easier.

Like you, I have a huge collection of books that largely collects dust on the shelf of 2.0. I am the proud owner of anything Darksun. 3.0 came out and I began buying again.
Of my possibly 300+ 3.0/3.5 books I say only maybe 15 don't get used regularly for some reason.

I tend to go out of my way to use things from all books and just adjust them for the current game I am running.

I run an Eberron game every two weeks with other 25-35 year olds. I have had a few requests by 16-18 year olds in my area to DM for them. They have read some of my THE CREATION SCHEMA Storyhours and loved it. I also write my Strikeforce: Morituri Storyhour that takes in history and items from ALL game worlds and types and my UNDER A DARKSUN which I continue to do. Now looking at a graphic Storyhour but I have having problems getting the size to work and the such here. Several of our artists of EN World are giving me excellent suggestions since I am computer stupid.

Miniatures are another thing I collect and will not throw away. I have several 1000 metal figures, Heroclixs and of course the new minis by WoTC.

That's about it.

oh and the wife tolerates it, my daughter wants more unicorns used and my son has learned how to swear from my gaming group.

I run a weekly Stargate game, I play in a by weekly D&D game, and I'm about to start a by weekly Paranoia game. I could game more but really I like to do other things besides game and may cut back on my gaming schedule some.

That's enough ...besides, he has to keep the post count up :D

Nice... the first hit is free... I like it!

You are able to use some 280 books reguarly? My mind boggles...

You and I differ here as well. I run my games (only run drama games) for my friends, and I have a strict no kids allowed rule. I just don't enjoy running games for the younger generation. I prefer mature storylines and themes, or at least the creative freedom to introduce them whenever I want to.

Yeah, I didn't mention my foray into the world of Warhammer 40K or Warhammer fantasy. Spent thousands on them years ago. I've rid myself of everything save my epic minatures... thats one habit I managed to kick for pure financial survival. ;)

LOL, the swearing in group is minimal to non-existant. My boy has learned his key words from the neighborhood children. If the gamers who came over used it my loving wonderful wife would skin me alive and rub the remains with salt. Thanks for chiming in, that was interesting to read.

I started out late. I was 21, hanging with my brother (not related...but we're that damned close) in his dorm room. These two guys came in and wanted to finish a game they'd started. A third player couldn't make it, and I was asked to run his character.

I'd heard of D&D before (this was AD&D 1e, by the way) and said I'd never played. "Do what we tell you, and you'll catch on." I ended up being the voice of reason in that party during the game, though died later when I couldn't solve a riddle posed by a white dragon.

After that, I was hooked. I rolled up my first character, an Anti-Paladin. When his STR score came up 18 (00) I was elated. The random height generator made him 7 and a half feet tall...but the DM made me cut foot off that... dammit. We played every weekend, starting about 9 am and running until late in the evenings on Saturdays, with breaks for lunch. That summer I came back from college with a PHB and a DMG and ran some friends on games.

I miss playing that much. Now we get to play MAYBE once a month if we're lucky. But it's a tradeoff I guess for being a grup.

But now my 11 year old son and his friend are playing. In fact, his buddy Ken ran his first game as a DM last night, and I have to admit he ran a better game his first time out than I did!

The future's so bright.....
