How Spike gets on Angel (spoilers)

Well, before TV Guide online reworked their format last week, they had a blurb on Spike on Angel. Since I'm not a subscriber, and have no intention of being one, I can't give a link, but, here's the essence of it:

Spike was, in fact, killed at the end of Buffy. When he shows up on Angel it is because he and Angel somehow share a bond (bloodline? souls?). And he comes back as a ghost.

I just kinda wanted to see if anyone had heard anything to the contrary and what everyone thought of that. Am I the only one who's less than optimistic about it?

From every spoiler I've read on upcoming episodes, your post is dead on in how Spike is to be introducted. And no, you are not the only one who has a bad, for me, really bad feeling about this season's Angel.

I hope I'm wrong. But, I fear Angel may have jumped the shark. Buffy never was the same after Season 4 for me and I wonder if its spinoff will have the same fate.

If so, I will officially shift my blame of Buffy's demise from Dawn's introduction, to Spike becoming a regular. :D

Well, personally, I'm a big Spike fan. It will be very interesting to see how the crew handles the new environment and how thigs develop...

Yeah, every source has been saying this for the last few months.

My gf (who got me into the show) and I were talking about this yesterday, in fact. :) As for Spike ruining Angel, I could see it if Joss's writers just use Spike because he's a popular character, to the exclusion of other characters already in the show.

Angel's fourth season was a bit of a mixed bag for me. They had a lot of really good concepts and stories, but I think it just all came out a jumbled mess. They really needed to nail down the story and focus on that. The characterization also really stunk last season - the only two characters who actually seemed to have depth were Wesley and Lilah. Gunn takes a (very) distant third, if only because I enjoyed his doubting why he was with Team Angel (mostly because I've wondered the same thing). Fred and Connor, IMO, blew chunks, and I'm actually more worried about there not being a strong female lead (with CC gone) than Spike being on the show. The stuff with Angel and Faith was completely gratuitous, as was the stuff with Gwen (except to give Gunn a rebound).

I got into Angel because of the characters and characterization. I'm hoping this seemingly new direction will reinvigorate the show, and give some less useful characters (Gunn, Fred, Connor last season) some actual storyline instead of them just being flat characters to bump up the size of the cast. If they don't, then Angel will be going the way of Buffy (which to be fair, I never much liked anyway).

I want my Cordy back!!!
Likewise. I don't necessarily mind Gunn, Fred, and Lorne, they just really are too much (numbers) and too little (depth) at the same time. Gunn and Fred could be axed without me shedding a tear, and I'd really prefer if Lorne went back to being an irregular.

I might be in the minority, but I think that Kate would have been a good 2nd female lead in the show. But, just when they could have brought her into the fold, they sent her off (maybe it was the actress's choice, since she moved on to a, presumably, better paying gig).

Angel, Wes, and Cordy were really the core of the show. If they kept it there, Spike, even as a ghost, could be an interesting and substantial addition. I'm afraid that it's just more fluff at this point.

Well, we'll see. Maybe Ripper will get the green light, yet. Joss' shows seem to be awesome for the first couple of seasons.

I believe that was the original plan. Then she got a part in Law & Order.

As for Cordy, I won't really miss her. I never liked her evolution in Angel. I like my Cordy bitchy!

From the interviews Angel is going back to being more episodic, so less over all seasonal arc. I think that will help it out.

Anyone interested in more info can follow either one of these two links. Both of them have plenty of spoilers.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the new season. I like Spike, and I always loved his interactions with Angel, so that ought to be fun. As for Cordelia, well, the whole Connor/Oedipus thing really grossed me out, so no thanks. Besides, I don't like Cordelia as the "Mother Hen" of the coop or whatever. Character growth is nice, but I didn't much care for the character which she grew into.

But as I said, looking forward to the new season. Can't wait til it begins. :)
