People who complain that 5e is not deadly enough are not using enough of PW:K, Disintegration beams, bottomless pits, mind flayers and Banshees with Quicken Magic Missiles.

The drowning / suffocation rules also provide a way to kill PCs. Especially ones that wear heavy armor near deep water.

I find DMs forget about PCs on 0HP all the time. They kind of fade out of existence.

Trick is, leave the miniature on the board face down (or mark where they went down). Then when the fireballs and other AoE's go off, dont forget to compare the damage to their max HP and have them tick off the automatic death save failure.
