How to end the world?

So the players saved the day even though you had originally decided that they had botched the chance of succes by driving the Godling away?

If so, why the change of heart.

And you're ending the campaign THERE?!? ;)

OK, yeah, I can see where the PCs-as-godlings can be a little unbalancing to an ongoing campaign. But, roll up new characters in the same world, and let the story continue from there.

The world is plunged into darkness with the coming of a demon lord and his armies. The heroes, who were the worlds' last hope to counter the inevitable Apocalypse have failed, but in a heroic, self-sacrificing last stand are able to cling to victory in the face of certain defeat, and wrest godhood from the demon lord's hands. Now, the world struggles to rebuild, to finally banish the Howling Night and bring about a new Dawn. This is complicated by the mortal flaws and imperfections of the land's new pantheon, and the machinations of the old godling who had planned to ascend to the new gods' thrones himself. As Joseph Campbell said, "A god outgrown immediately becomes a life-destroying demon"…churning with bitterness at the failure of his plans for power, the godling Vona has become as much a threat to the world as the demon lord he planned to destroy.

Yeah, I'd play that campaign….

Like I said, I played God of War II just before the game. It got me in a different mood. Less 'This is how the world ends,' and more 'Grab his head, throw him in the door, and slam it shut over and over and over until that sonuvabish Theseus knows who's boss!'

Maybe I'm fickle. You guys should've read the ending to my modern campaign last year.

This week in my game - The Dungeon of Avalon, Nazi Vampires, and Hailing to the King.

EDIT: I wrote this after reading the OP, which made it seem like the players had no chance of winning.

Wow, RangerWickett. That sounds like an awesome campaign, and I wish I was in it. Because I love the heroic epic, as a player I'd stand on the ramparts, yell "come and get me!" and make the DM roll out the whole death scene. No way I'm letting that get hand-waved in DM narrative. I'd fight it out to the very bitter -10, and whatever fell powers were at work would pay for every hit-point in blood.

Because that's how meat-shields roll.

I'm starting this campaign back up after a long hiatus. I'll be shooting for a slow build, and dealing with the aftermath, and the need to find their place in the rest of the world. Eventually, though, I'll need to top this climax. I've got some ideas, but it will be a long build up to the necessary dramatic energy.

Question, RW:

How is Gorlub's elemental-morphing represented (game) mechanically? Do you have a Rogues' Gallery for any/all of your PC's?

It's been 3 years since I ran this game, and I'm starting it up with a new ruleset, so I don't have the old rules that clear in my head.

I think it came down to something like he could choose one of four forms, and swap as a standard action.

Wait, I just found his character sheet. Bear in mind, a lot of this was house rules stuff.

Looking over the character sheet, I thought the Chameleon prestige class would have been a decent model, but your treats come with a buffet attached. ;)
