It's simple. First, put on a blindfold or find some other way to make your character blind.

Then Slam the ground. Since you have a chance to miss anything while blind, if you fail the check, bam, flight achieved.

No, no, no.... You got it completely wrong. The trick is to actually MISS the ground while falling. This is achieved if you are, somehow, distracted at the moment when you should hit the ground.

I imagine this a redneck commoner game, "Miss the Ground". A bunch of drunk buddies get together, put on blindfolds and keep falling over. After much brusing, and because this is a magical world, one of them falls and misses. They all have a great laugh and "Huzzah!" over their floating buddy. Good times.
