Pathfinder 1E How to get a Pathfinder Society Game going?

I'm a bit fuzzy on how it works...

There are no PFS games in my area.

We have some small conventions we're putting together, and we were wondering how to go about setting up a PFS game for them. I read the document, it seemed a little vague on this process.

IS it something that you go apply for a permit to do? Could people have home games of pathfinder society stuff assuming they just run PFS modules and use the PFS rules?

Any clarification would be great.

You don't have to apply for a permit, but if you are running games at a convention you probably want to register the event on the event page (which you have to do at some point in order to record what characters played it). The event page has directions there on creating an event and recording an event.

You can run home games of Pathfinder Society as well. In order to get credit for them you would also create an event for those and record the session for characters after they were completed. In addition to home games you can also run games online via a VTT or play-by-post and get credt for them as well.

Because it is organized play there are several rules that differ from typical Pathfinder play. You use point buy for stat generation, a set starting limit of gold, limit to what things are fair for purchase, etc. So definitely review the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play for all of the specifics. Understanding that will go far in a successful Pathfinder Society Game.

Also, Paizo has helpful forums for people playing Pathfinder Society games. Well worth reading posts there to learn more and a good place to ask questions.

Good luck and have fun!

Very interesting.

How do you get legit versions of the modules? and once the event is reported, is there some way to notify whether the seats have been filled?

The modules are available for purchase at the Paizo site in the scenarios section. There are two seasons at the moment that you can choose modules from, Season 0 and Season 1.

If you create an event before the convention you would just handle filling the table and letting people know the table is full through whatever means you have in place for the convention. When you report the table was played at the convention (or home game or online, etc) then you enter in the GM info and then enter in the Pathfinder Society Number for the character that played the module for reporting purposes. A person can have more than one character created for use in different modules.
