How to handle a strange prophet

Aaron

First Post
"We see, like those who have imperfect sight,
The things," he said, "that distant are from us;
So much still shines on us the Sovereign Ruler.
When they draw near, or are, is wholly vain
Our intellect, and if none brings it to us,
Not anything know we of your human state.

Dante, Inferno, X, 100-105.

So we have found a strange prophet that can (constantly) see and hear the future, but can't see and hear what happens in the meantime.

His sight is 10 or 20 years in the future, we don't know for sure, but we are trying to find a way to obtain precious knowledge from him.

He can speak, but he's always talking to unknown people in the future, that can't talk with him, of course, cause his counterpart in the future has the same problem he has now.

Find a chronomancer and then send the prophet 10 or 20 years in the past so that he could see into the present from the past and his future self will appear in the present and see into the future.

If that doesn't work get your rogue to backstab him so that you could break his concentration and force him to work in the present.

OR you could easily get a telapath or an enchanter to read his thoughts.

Eh..you make it look easy.

We don't even know if there are chronomancers in our campaign. :)

Done: he bleeds, but doesn't realize what's happening.

Done, but his thoughts are limited to his surroundings: we need to pose questions about something else.

Find out what he is doing and where he is in the future, and leave time capsules and etchings on walls leading him to discover the information you need. The etchings, capsules will remain for 20 years, and then he can describe things to you as you need.

Hmm... interesting.. Here's one idea. If the tombstones that exist within your campaign world contain information besides for the names of the dead, then you should drag him into a near buy village or town's grave yard. Once there you you could head towards an area which is currently undeveloped and then read his mind or ask him about what is there. This way you could find out about any important people who died (since those tombs are most likely to have a date displayed on them) and if your lucky you can discover what year he's in if he sees a dated monument being erected.

That's a good idea that we tried too, but apparently the fate (or the DM? who knows?:D) is against us, cause everything we leave disappears.

Looks like some war or big event will change everything in the area.

I really like your idea.

The only problem now is that we can't easily get out of the place where the prophet lives with him, cause he's jailed, but if we can figure it out that's the first thing we'll do.

Hire a series of scribes to sit with him and write down everything he says. Then put your name on the prophecies instead of his, lay back, and become famous. :)

:D

Unfortunately we don't have that much time, but if we menage to get him out of jail I'll give it a try. :)

Okay, maybe I've figured out an answer. If you can figure out where he'll be in the future, write - on something enduring, like stone - what the situation is. Say that you need certain info, and ask that anyone near him in the future ask him that question every day at noon. If you guys have enough money, hire scribes for 20 years to make sure this happens. Then - MAYBE - someone will ask him the right question at the right time, and he'll answer, and you'll hear it. Maybe. But you can send a message into the future, and hear it reflected now!

This is incredibly cool. I'm so stealing this.

We tried it, but everything we write upon, like walls or ceilings, seem to be vanished in his future.

We are in time of war, and it's reasonable that the building we are into will be destroyed in the near future, so we are trying to find something to accomplish what you suggest other than stone and such.

We even tried to scar him to write questions on his skin :] , but someone/something must have healed him in the future.
