How to handle a strange prophet

Magic mouth! Given the slight chance that no one ever dispels magic on him, you could cast magic mouth on him. You'd need to think about the trigger, though.

The Dream spell should work - it is a phantasm, so its effect is on his mind directly as opposed to on his perceptions.

Ok. Its a complicated plan, but...

Step 1: Kill him.

Step 2: Cast Speak with Dead

Step 3a: If your party is generally Good, get him Raised.

Step 3b: If your party is generally Evil, get his corpse Animated.

If this is really, really important, explain it to him. He'll hear the explanation, and will have reacted to it 10-20 years in the past. So at least he'll know what's going on.

I am not sure if this would work, but consider:

1. First, listen to what the present-NPC is saying to gain clues on how far in the future he is seeing into.
2. Then make a list of questions you want to ask him and write them down. Then write down a key nonsensical phrase. I suggest: purple monkey dish washer.
3. Note to the DM that as you PCs get older, they will use the clues given in step one to pinpoint exactly how far NPC is seeing into the future.
4. Assuming the future vision is a constant, have future-PCs meet up with future-NPC at a point where present-PCs is also meeting up with present-NPC. Have future-PCs ask future-NPC to repeat key nonsensical phrase, then follow up with questions.
5. When present-PCs hear the key phrase, follow the questions on the sheet (as you will only be able to hear the answers). Hopefully, you should get the information you need.
