I'm looking for some advice on what I can do with my character so as to best help my party.

I'm playing a Human Psion (telepath) 2

The party also has

A Tiefling Wizard 1
Human Fighter 2 (speciallizing in heavy armor and bastard sword)
Half-Elf Sorceror 2

And sometimes a Human Paladin 2

Anyone have any advice to give what to do with my character to make our party better?

And suggestion of roll up a cleric is good advice but not what I'm looking for. I'd like to stay a Psion.

I assume it's 3.5?

Do you have a psicrystal? It could handle scouting duties for your group.

At 3rd-level you might learn Energy Stun, which doesn't do much damage but can stun an opponent, preventing them from attacking for 1 round. That'll help reduce injuries to the party so they require less time/resources for healing.

Inflict Pain, Id Insinuation, or Mental Disruption could also help a bit, but not so much I think.

You might try to find and purchase a Dorje of Body Adjustment.... Though it's 3rd-level for Psions so it would be kind of expensive. Then you could serve as kind of a meat shield and heal yourself afterward. The Share Pain psionic power could help with that, transferring half your damage to an ally, since your HP won't be very high as a Psion. Biofeedback or Vigor could also help.

Energy Stun and other stuff that stops enemies from attacking for a moment, or from attacking at full force/accuracy, is your best bet. Energy Stun works on stuff that's immune to mind-affecting effects though, IIRC, as long as the target is not immune to 'stunning'. Plus it deals a bit of damage, which is handy.

Buy lots and lots of cure potions, and manifest defensive powers as much as possible. Without a healer and with only one character with HD better than a d4, I would expect a lot of deaths.

Kill the half-elf (should be trivial at 3rd level) and make his player play a Cleric. :)

Get astral construct ASAP because you don't have to heal summoned tanks. What feats and powers have you chosen already? If I had to build a 2nd level Telepath, here's what I'd do, aiming for efficiency across a bunch of roles (including "party face" and self-preservation in combat):

1st level: Psionic Body, Point Blank Shot, Speed of Thought -- crystal shard, entangling ectoplasm, vigor
2nd level: empathy, mindlink
---
3rd level: Expanded Knowledge (astral construct) -- psi suggestion, energy stun
4th level: ego whip, read thoughts
5th level: Psionic Shot -- dispel psionics, time hop
6th level: Psionic Meditation -- touchsight and energy bolt or energy wall
7th level: psi dimension door, psi dominate
8th level: schism ... plus something else, possibly empathic transfer
9th level: Empower Power (or Expanded Knowledge (body adjustment) from the Psychic Warrior list) -- mind probe, psi plane shift
10th level: Greater Psionic Shot -- psi divination, trace teleport

Note that most of your feats are [Psionic], so you'll get +2 hp at many levels (+4 at 1st level, for 8 + Con starting HP, same as a Cleric or Ranger).

If the strategy isn't obvious, let me know, I'll spell it out more. :)

Cheers, -- N

Thanks for the help.

My DM is gonna let me swap out my choices a bit, so I'll take your suggestions to heart.

Our wizard is very fond of her summons but 1 round isn't much use, and I'll definatly pick up Astral Construct as soon as I can. That's been in plan all along

Just make your guy how you feel like playing him. Then it's the party's responsibility to fill in the healing gap. Here are some things that everybody can buy to get a cleric in a box:

1) Healing Belts from Magic Item Compendium.
2) Potions of Lesser Restoration, Neutralize Poison, Remove Disease, etc.
3) If someone sticks ranks in UMD, wands of CLW become viable.

Does the DM have any NPCs that he or she has in the group?
The Paladin is the DM's pet NPC.

Just had 2 players ask to join for this weeks game... serious doubts on if they'll play more than one game though, but if they do one rolled up a Druid his girlfriend a Cleric so that might have just fixed the problem.

Thanks for all the help everyone.
