How to hide a spellbook.

Stupid Wizards, this is what you get, if you have to get magic out of a book you don't deserve to be casting it.

IIRC in Tome & Blood there's a spell that creates an extra-dimensional space to hide your familiar. I don't think it would take much magical research to convert the spell to take a spellbook instead. You could even make the case to your DM that such a spell should already exist in your campaign.

Hope that helps. ;)

So...

You open the space, stick your spellbook in, run out of spells that day, then your spellbook is forever trapped in subspace because you no longer have the spellbook that has the spell that gets your spellbook out of subspace?

I believe it's duration is 1 hour/level (D). You can dispel the pocket as a standard action.

Folks are missing the simplest solutions - don't act upon the book, but act upon the theif...

You have a "friend" who keep stealing your book? Cast Blindness on him, and the book will be hidden from him. Heck, if you don't want to waste a spell on thie "friend" simply whallop the offending character about the head and shoulders with a heavy, blunt instrument until they cannot see straight. Nothing like a concussion to keep the theives away...

Does the DM have something against mages or this player? If not, are the fighter's weapons ever stolen? The cleric's holy symbol? If this behavior is habitual in the DM's campaign I'd talk to the DM or make a sorcerer or psion.

OTOH if there are completely valid in game reasons for the continual loss of the spellbook I'd say get Spell Mastery with some ever useful spells and Leomund's Secret Chest.

How do you hide your spellbook? My friend has had it stolen three times, and both of us are looking for ideas.

Two words: Spell Mastery.

Failing that, look into some of the magic items that can replace spellbooks. Nothing so common as a Boccob's Blessed Book of course - I mean the cool stuff like the staff in Book of Eldritch Might (I think?) that lets you basically store stuff in braille.

Failing that, protective spells. Alarm is good, or if you're higher level sepia snake sigil.

If you're feeling vindictive, carry around a big expensive-looking book and then cast explosive runes on it. Then write your spells on inexpensive-looking scraps of paper. The thieves grab the big, heavy, locked, obvious spellbook, ignoring the other stuff. And then go boom.

This is all assuming that it's the only thing being stolen. If everything is being stolen, you want spell mastery.

And make sure locate objectis on your spell mastery list.

Make the spellbook out of different materials. Gems with runes inscribed into the gem itself are good places for them. Sticks with runes carved into 'em are another.

Keeping backup copies is another option.

Taking Spell Mastery is another vital feat for wizards in this type of situation. Not as much a worry then.

Having friends or allies in a wizard's guild that will allow you to store you books there is another.

Having a spell or device to find your own equipment is another.

Of course this doesnt' cover the ability some wizards have to trap their spell books...
