This is a neat mechanic. I like the fact that it adds another useful aspect to Heighten Spell. I'm not sure it would work with all effects, though. Could you Heighten a Continual Flame spell to 4th-level and create a torch that defeats Deeper Darkness, for example?Squire James said:The house rule I use is that the concealing effect needs to be higher spell level than the revealing effect for it to work. A Non-detection would defeat See Invisibility, but not True Seeing. A Non-detection heightened to 6th level defeats True Seeing (unless the True Seeing was heightened too!).
Yes. That's not even a house rule, it's a core rule. It's mentioned in the spell description of most of the spell with [Light] or [Dark] descriptors: "Light spells counter darkness spells of an equal or lower level. Interesting. Could you then purchase such a torch? It seems cheap, to be able to negate all darkness spells with a single-casting of a Heightened spell...forever.Caliban said:Yes. Consider this rule snatched.Squire James said:The best way to defeat True Seeing is by using non-magical means like Hide and Bluff skills. Those still work fine.
