I would like some tips on photographing miniatures, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am using a Fuji Finepix 2600Z digital camera if that aids in your aiding me.

My pix of minis only come out well when I do all of the following:
  • Use the "micro" mode on the camera (or whatever the extreme close-up mode is called)
  • Use a tripod
  • Do not use a flash
  • Shoot outdoors in natural light, preferably on a cloudy day

If I ignore any one of these items, the pix are bad. If I do all four of them, the pix usually turn out quite nice.

Good luck!

Cool Mini or Not has several articles on miniature photography. Here is a link

http://www.coolminiornot.com/go.php?go=articlephp&sid=6&orderby=date&levels=99

All of the articles are pretty good. They'll show you how to set up lighting, backgrounds, color correction using software, etc.

Good luck with your miniatures photography.

b. nobeard is usually so right it hurts, but i have a contrary suggestion.

use your flash, but hang a small piece of paper towel over it, the increased but sudued light helps sometmes :)

In addition to a tripod, I'd say use a remote or timer setting to snap the pic as well. Your camera may also have a MINIMUM focal length. You need to find out what distance that is and make sure you are not too close to the mini.

The articles at Cool Mini or Not really do a better job of covering more detailed info and the reasons behind them. I'd suggest you visit the links to them above.
