*How to thwart the Saints Nimbus light?

Sir ThornCrest

First Post
It has been a constant source of iritation this dreaded Nimbus aura in our group with a double str pro vs evil. It's an undead hunter campaign and my undead are having well lets say "problems" striking with there natural weapons claws teeth etc....

So tonight I am going to send a Vampire Lord against the party. Question is what are the ways the vamp lord can counter this double str pro vs evil? And to protect himself vs the turning of the cleric...Cleric is a Radiant servant of Pelor 11th level with the Saint Template the Vampire Lord will be a Psion 10th level + vamp + vamp lord = to 15cr...? I may up his level?

Also as a side question under the radiant servant of Pelor one of its class featuresd say he doubles any spells/spell like ability with the spell descriptor of light...does Nimbus Light fall into this category?

Why oh why did you let a character just have that template? It's something you should earn I reckon, (just like I'm trying to at the moment however I'm gonna be dead, or possibly undead on Tuesday so it don't really matter).

That aura can be dispelled I believe just like a magic item or it might only surpress it for the one round, I cannae remember.

If you mean the Exalted feat Nimbus of Light, I'd say no because it's a feat, not a spell or spell-like ability, and it does not grant a spell or spell-like ability. The text of the feat says:

You are cloaked in a radiant light.... Your radiance sheds light as a common lamp.... You can extinguish this radiance at will and reactivate it again as a free action.

Notice that it never calls the "radiance" a spell or spell-like ability.

You need to start by reading the spell description.

Unless the undead are summoned creatures, they should have no trouble striking the Saint with their natural weapons (above and beyond the +4 deflection bonus he's getting from it). Big deal. That's like asking for help dealing with a chain shirt.

Make sure the player's not trying to stack that deflection bonus with any other kind of deflection bonus (like a ring of protection).

As for your Vampire Lord-- Dracula had his Cossacks. Hire yourself out some Neutral flackeys. They don't even need to know who's employing them, they just have to be willing to work for coin. Lawful Neutral would be my choice-- hire some bounty hunters to take out the Saint on whatever pretense you like (trespassing or breaking and entering, probably).

Wulf,
Thanks for the neutral idea of done that before long ago, great idea. His aura is just a pain a constant lesser globe of invulnerability to block out spells in a 20' radius....I agree with everyone out there ...NEVER LET A PLAYER JUST PICK THIS TEMPLATE!!!! Make them earn it!

The vamps are summoned in via a staff, a staff the party desperately wants to get there hands on! The Vamp Lord now has the staff and the party is chytin bricks!

Thorncrest,

As much as I enjoy reading your posts, isn't it time you simply started a new campaign at 1st level so that you and your players can learn the rules before you start adding on bits and pieces from other books?

Also, as per the heading in Wulf's post, it seems that you post your questions without actually sitting down and reading the books. Again, the best thing seems to be that you start a core-only campaign at 1st level and start building up a working knowledge of the rules.

hind sight is 20/20 I wish I would of listened!

You mean, would have.

Sarcasm.....nice,

I post from my office. Here I don’t have books. So when I post a question I’m hoping that others on this site have either retained this info or have books nearby. When I post questions I make a note and the next game night I consult the books. If you read my posts they are dominantly questioning players and DM’s interpretation & implementation of the rules. Suggesting that I read rules and start over extra is a cheap shot by you. When you responded to my post you were doing so out of purposeful antagonism ....you saw an opportunity to criticize somebody and you couldn’t resist....
Again a cheap shot.....albeit a mild “not to impact full” cheap shot, but nonetheless a cheap shot!.

OHH and thanks for the grammar correction, I’m sure we are all better for it now.
