How to treat invisibilty outside combat

Hello everyone! Here I am with another question, now about invisibility. Let me tell you what I need. I would like the pc's to be robbed by an invisible thief, I'm thinking of using a Dark Stalker from MM1, which has an invisibility power, but this seems to work only in combat and lasts until the end of its next turn, so here's the question: Is there a rule about using this kind of powers out of combat? How much would the power last?

Thanks for reading! Hope you can help me.

Fudge your recharge rolls (out of combat is the same as in, time-wise, so long as you keep recharging you can be invisible).

You have a larger issue though. in 4e "Invisible" is just Total Concealment. The PCs would still know something was there, exactly what square it was in, etc., In order to not be aware of something it must be Hidden.

Whoops! Browser Settings Incompatible.

Read that thread, as it is easily the finest thread on the subject ever.

Powers arent extended outside of combat, in the way you're inquiring... I did a brief look at some magic items, and the only thing i came across was the Cloak of Invisibilty (granted it's epic level lol)... but it has a daily power that let's you become invisible until end of an encounter (or 5min) or until you get hit by a melee or ranged attack.

Unless a class has a power (maybe wizards?) that can sustain: minor an invisibilty power, i dont think you will find something outside of just using a stealth check.

But, you could just "let" it happen for story line purposes... doesnt have to follow RAW for roleplaying purposes.

Technically, the power would last until the end of his next turn... only a few seconds. If it happens to recharge (2/3rds of the time, it will), he can do it again, and it'll last for another few seconds.

However, if he is wearing Ever-Fading Armor (+2 is a Level 10 item), he can effectively sustain the invisibility by using a Standard action each round.
