D&D 5E How would YOU build Vecna?

  • His powers pertaining to "The Hand" and "The Eye" actually involve affecting other people's hands and eyes, as if he's corrupting that body part. With "The Hand", he makes a character attack or cast a touch spell of his choosing, while with "The Eye" he does a souped up version of the Nothic's Gaze but also can see through that character's eye for spell targeting purposes.
  • He knows Living Magic, allowing him to rewrite a character's prepared spells & when he successfully uses Counterspell or Spell Reflection (like the Spectator), he can opt to summon a living spell from the remnant magical energy.
  • Anytime a spell is cast within Vecna's presence, he knows which spell it is, the True Name of the caster (imposing disadvantage on their save vs his next spell), and he gains a token number of temporary hit points.
  • He can telepathically utter a Deep Dark Secret, imposing a "demoralized" condition which strips a character of all temporary hit points and other buffs, and prevents them from regaining temporary HP or buffs until the "demoralized" condition is removed.
  • He can lay down an Arcane Befuddlement aura which functions like Confusion but only for hostile spellcasters in his presence, potentially causing them to cast unintended spells, breaking disruption, etc.
  • He has undead minions whom he can transfer concentration of his spells to, once per round. One of the minion's eyes gleams with intensifying fell light while this happens, but if the minion concentrates for X amount of time (maybe 3 rounds), the magical energy consumes it and it explodes in a necrotic burst.
