How would you do 3.5e in 160 pages?

Hey Kem, sorry to hear about your health.

Any chance of posting the abilities / classes work you've already done?

Here is what I have so far.

The Small 3.5 SRD.doc is the Ability Scores, The Basics, and the begining of "Special Abilities".

Class Basics is that one table with BAB, Saves, and class skills. I still want to double check it against just a plain text format for that, but I am almost 100% sure that the table takes up less space. Almost doesn't cut it for me though :) I know it is smaller then if you have the ability score (DEX) after each skill but I forgot to remove that and try.

Classes.doc is just barbarian and the start of Bard.

Small 3.5 SRD Monsters.doc is Aboleth to that shapechanging spider. Then Angels and I was trying to fit Animated objects but it won't fit.

I fell ill while working on classes and the monsters. I am feeling a little better today so I was going to do some more work on classes, I want to see how many will fit on that first page. I hope to get Barbarian, Bard, Cleric and at least start Druid. Also I haven't done everything I want with classes yet, but it seems good to me so far :)

OK, so right now if we're talking about core-only, we have:

Abilities - 1 page (the columns on Kem's version don't appear right for me, I attached my version that doesn't even use columns)
Races - 1 page
Skills - 11 pages

Kem's still looking at classes, although I'll be doing them separately because of my refined palate when it comes to levels.

Feats seems like a natural next step.

One thing that hasn't been discussed yet: What about 2-pages facing spreads? Couldn't we use a little bit of colour to keep the rows connected and do a 2 page spread for some of the more difficult tables?

E6 (i.e. Basic D&D, levels 1-6) Classes, 11 pages.

hmmm... I was hoping it was going to be more useful to the community at large, rather than just those playing E6.

We should also try and maintain consitency across the various documents with regard to formatting text paragraphs and headings.

4 pages Ability Scores,
4 pages races,
20 pages classes

So far we've got (for a basic D&D / E6 approach)

1 page Ability Scores
1 page Races
11 pages classes
11 pages skills
=24 pages

which basically does skills (which I originally omitted), races, abilities, and classes in 4 pages less than I thought when I started out. Not bad so far.

First, I'd cut all the adjectives and adverbs and most prepositional phrases. Then delete the sorcerer class entirely. Get rid of the stupid instant-PC examples at the end of each class description. All the art. Shrink the font size by a point or two (package the book with a free magnifying lens!).

After that, we'll see. It's a start.

I was under the impression that we were going to keep it in sections so people could take what they wanted. My versions are just those who want a basic D&D or E6 booklet.

Yes, but it is easier to handle the entire text of the SRD, and then cut to reduce to nonpsionic E6, if that is what you want. Removing chunks of text is far easier to do later, than trying to add stuff in.
