How would you identify a wizard?

they must also have a beard (or attempts therein) and a staff with a knob on the end.

You got ta have a hat for the wizardin'.

I think it should read you should be able to have a beard at a moments notice.... Think about zedd and Richard in SoT (no beards) although it also says simple robes and never mentions the hat. (maybe this isnt a good example).

Well it COULD work since Mesos was the sire of sorcery...and perhaps the Necromancers of Hollowfaust COULD find such a creature. I still think the true ritual would work better, as it would be simple but effect. Plus the effect could be limited to those that don't already HAVE their tokens.

That's actually a good idea. Who else besides a wizard would have a pocket full of bat guano?

As if an arcane caster can't find a way to carry his guano so the critter can't detect it? Smuggling is an older profession than necromancy - the smugglers will win easily. :)

You have valid point there Umbran...but I think that there's probably a good way of getting wizards and sorcerers identified in Hollowfaust...I just have to work on it! ;)

You may also consider that there may not be a good way to do it in the core rules.

In the core rules, as far as I know, wizards are just people with knowledge. They are not inherently magical, so you cannot detect them, per se. Looking for items they commonly carry would create a nuisance for wizards, but it wouldn't stop them. If anything, it might tick thenm off and set them to actively resisting :)

That leaves finding them by their behavior - watching people, having sky-borne magic detectors looking for spellcastings, secret police, and suchlike....
