How Would You Improve the Ennies?

The Ennies talk this week has me thinking about the awards, so I thought I'd start a new thread with a more positive outlook to discuss them.

It's clear that some people have issues with the awards as they stand. Some of these are reasonable; others not so much. If you had the chance, how would you improve the Ennies?

Personally, I'd like to see some way to offset the popularity contest nature of the final awards. It's not fun to have WotC show up and stomp everyone else into the ground and next year's awards will be even worse with 4E eligible in so many categories. Now I do think the fan nature of the award is important but it'd be nice if at least some of the awards weren't so dependent on the size of each company's fanbase. Perhaps a couple of "Judge's Choice" awards to recognize cool stuff from companies beyond WotC, White Wolf, and Paizo?

The Nominations are the Judges Choice. It's not always easy for the Judges to agree on what 5 products to nominate, imagine the difficulty of narrowing that down to a single product.

I think it's interesting watching the growth of stuff like this...

Starts off as a fun thing fans of the hobby do- whatever goes goes. It's just for fun... When it gets to the point where people are seriously debating "how" things are done in the thing, you know it's grown up into something more then just for fun... it's now something that impacts people's lives (businesses.)

Just find that interesting to watch.
