How would you RP a Gnome Conquest Paladin?

I know the idea of a Gnome or Kobold Conquest Paladin is silly, but if you were to attempt it, how would you pull it off?

Hm.

I've always found this type of character to be a joke, more often than not. One of my old players (who no longer plays with us, for related reasons) would always make gnomes, just because he thought they were funny.

I might not do Conquest, but the idea of a righteous, devout, and corny gnome paladin is amusing, "It's not the size of the gnome in a fight, it's the size of the gnome's heart in a fight!" In other words, Vash the Stampede, but shin-height.

By jumping feet-first into a wood chipper?

Wait...is this a trick question?

With a rapier of course!

But seriously. They could be warring over another small race initially like goblins or such and just evolve from there. That would not seem so silly then. No so silly, but still a little bit.

If I was going to play a gnome paladin of conquest in a serious game, I'd play him a as a bit of a sociopath. Not a full blow psychotic or casual murderer, but he'd be a zealot that doesn't let empathy or compassion get in the way of what must be done. It's not that he takes pleasure in it, but has an iron conviction that what is right must be done no matter the cost.

Now, paladins of conquest seem very Lawful to me, while there are so many gnomish interpretations around that there's no "one right way". I'd go for one of the more craftsman, everything-in-it's-place philosophy, less fey, trickster or chaotic. If you're going rock gnome, one quirk could be to make wind-up toys of people (marching soldiers, twirling ballerinas, etc.) in their spare time and lament that beings in the world can't be as orderly.

If you wanted got go more emotional, put out a dislike of the larger races that keep the gnomes in check through their size-ism. But with the medium sized races it's just a basic dislike that can be overcome, getting more intense the larger the race. That last part is to make sure the character can still effectively play with the rest of the party.

Oh, and they need a rapier. Nothing is better than a gnome paladin with a rapier, right lowkey13?

A cultured gentleman from a more technologically advanced culture than the norm. It is the gnomes' burden to bring the other lesser peoples under the guiding light of the one true civilisation. Pretty much look at any book or paper from the British imperial era. You can be a world conquering despot without being uncultured or "uncivil". You can even do it with the best of intentions if you are a true believer.

Mechanically I would go for platemail and a high strength and flavour it as a normal gnome in powerarmor. It would be interesting to follow Gond, the god of craftsmen and invention. Being from a tyrannical sect of an otherwise good religion us fun. The other appropriate religion would be something like hard-core Confusionism. Like Blue said, a guy obsessed with everything and everybody being in its place. I would play him a bit psychopathic, very OCD and fairly Aspergers.

This actually has me tempted to play an Eldritch Knight, flavouring his burning hands as a Boba Fett style flamethrower, shield spell as a deflector shield etc. If the GM was OK with steampunk, but that already seems to be the flavour of Rock Gnomes.
