Because I've seen this come up in multiple discussions in the recent past... Which do you prefer, Solomon Kane or Conan? (Original stories, not movies.)

Please don't reply if you aren't familiar with both characters. And yes, I know he had other great characters; but right now, I'm interested in these two in particular.

For the record, I'm a Kane guy myself. Don't get me wrong, I like most of the Conan stories. I'll even go so far as to say that, due to Howard's growth as a writer, the later Conan stories are better written, on a technical level, than the Kane stories. Nevertheless, I just find Kane a much more intriguing character.

Conan. I like Conan better as a character and I prefer the way that the theme of Civilization vs. Barbarism is more present in the Conan stories (Beyond the Black River stands out in my mind). The 'good vs. evil' in the Kane stories doesn't really appeal to me either.

That said, I really do like both characters.

I love both characters and their stories, but I voted for Solomon Kane. I'm used to sword and sorcery settings being completely fictional, so I find Kane's historical setting more interesting. I also see Kane as possibly the most determined character ever created.
