How's the weather?

I Tried this in Plots & Places but didn't get any attention so I'll try this here.

I'm starting a new campaign in Westgate where the PCs are Private Investigators. I have a lot of details planned out already about the people and places in the city but I want to start focussing on the more day to day details.

Like weather for example. Does anyone know what the weather cycle is here? (or the southern Dragon Coast in general). I want to make daily weather tables as I have one story line where a ghost only comes up during really bad rain storms. I also need to find out when (or even if) the snows come to Westgate. Does the port shut down at all?

Also, slightly off topic but has anyone developed the laws of Westgate? I know slavery is legal, but how is the treatment of slaves? can they be beaten in public? or are they well treated (in public at least) With the Night Masks ruling most of the city there would be a lot of corruption but how much of the laws are really enforced and what are the punishments?

Any help would be well... helpful.... and certainly appreciated.

Hmm... I didn't know slavery was legal. I'll have to look back into my books again.

As for weather, it's Temperate Coastal. I recommend going to:

http://www.sdzc.net/weather.html

and using the "unformatted" option. Particularly useful if you have the best weather rules printed yet - the old 1e Wilderness Survival Guide.

Brief notes: AFAIK, snow comes to Westgate, but it's fairly minimal due to it's coastal location along the Inner Sea, and the fact that it borders between a Temperate climate (Heartlands latitude) and Moderate climate (Amn/Tethyr/Vilhon Reach latitude). The port would likely never shut down, IMO, except maybe a couple of days in Nightal, some scattered days in Hammer, and then maybe a day or two in Alturiak - all depending on the weather.

Generally during those months, it will rain more than anything else (think Seattle or Vancouver). Since absolutely *nothing* has been mentioned about ocean currents in any FR book, we have little else to go on.

I don't recall ever seeing information on Westgate's weather. However, Cormyr, in 2E at least is noted as a wet land, receiving abundant rain in summer and spring and abundant snow in winter. It has long, cold winters, and short but hot summers. Much of spring and fall is temperate and moist and fog is common along the seacost.

Given Cormyr's close proximity to Westgate, you could use that information above as a basis to build on or just go with it if you can't find anything else on Westgate.

Have you tried WeatherMaster? http://www.milieusim.com

It has downloads for the Faerun calender and can print off a week or more worth of realistic weather patterns.
