Huge GenCon news.

I'm hoping this make the SoCal show bigger than it is now. I'm not into console or computer games, but the addition of such stuff would make the show a bigger draw for other games in general. I live a fairly easy drive away from both the place in Anaheim and the LA convention center.

I think the crown for the E3 successor has already been handed out, at least as far as games are concerned.
Penny Arcade's PAX has been running for three years, billing itself as an E3 for consumers. Attendance this year is expected to hit about 13,000 hardcore video and computer game fanatics, and the gaming industry has jumped on board.

Freakin' wonderful. GenCon was a blast last year (for a first timer, that is nothing to not expect). Last thing it needs is more than a handful of booths for video games. Last had the two for DnD Online and Promise of Power. I wouldn't mind if it expanded so much as to include video games spawned from PnP games, but this is rediculous. If Indy can't support the extra 43k square feet, where will GenCon go?

They wouldn't have been that specific if they didn't know *exactly* where they were getting that space. I'm not sure where they're getting it, either, but I think it's clear that they're getting it from somewhere in or attached to the Indy Convention Center.

One more reason why they really need the extra space when Indy gets expanded in a few years.

Eh - I think the time & money would be better spent working on the games themselves, not demos and such to show at shows. I mean, the hype at a show lasts for a couple weeks, then everyone forgets about a title (unless it's really really huge, like say, Spore, and that hardly needs to be shown).

I went to Gen Con this year and there were a few video games there, all of them had a theme that was conducive to the Gen Con envirionment. I didnt' really feel that Neverwinter Nights 2 or Stronghold Legends didn't belong, they are both games I have been looking forward too, as I play both PnP and PC games, especially Neverwinter Nights 2 as its based on a PnP game. Now do I really want to see the NFL Madden preview game, or a preview game for the next big gaming console, no, I have no desire to see that at Gen Con. If I wanted to see that I would go to PAX or a similar Con. So I hope they keep Gen Con the way it is, a smattering of the video games that were there didn't hurt anything, but I would hate to see the Gen Con environment change anymore than what it has already.

Call me unenthused by Gencon gaining a most prevalent computer gaming presence. I understand the necessity, but hopefully it won't become another Origins (wargaming) or E3 (computer games in general) clone, something I DON'T WANT to attend.:\
