Heck, certain angels, as described, can be fairly nightmarish in appearance, they're not all 'beautiful humans with wings'. The ophanim, for example, are giant glowing wheels covered with eyes. One of the descriptions of a cherub involve having 4 faces (man, lion, ox, and eagle), 8 wings covered with eyes, and the feet of an ox.

Indeed, one need not look any further than Rennaissance manuscripts and illuminations to see the sort of grotesquery that is present in Christian literature.

On spells being "lost" when levelling up, i think it may be more something along the lines of spells being improved into more powerful versions as the caster levels up. For example, the ray of frost may become a cone of cold. The example may not necessarily be good because a ray and a cone serve different purposes, but the point is: i don't think that you'll be loosing a sleep spell to obtain a cold of cold as you level up.

Well the Angels don't have to look like classic Angels, hell the Angels we have seen already don't look like classic Angels. I am thinking a good evil Angel would be something like this:
