IMC Hawaiki - Mythic Polynesia the eastern Islands are still being explored and discovered by Humans thus forming one of the three 'theme-zones' of the setting (the others being the Old Imperial West and the newly founded central colonies).
In the eastern islands the natives include local 'spirits' and goblins who have been driven out of the west as Humans advance. Gnomes (Fav Class
ruid) were natives to the central colonies and now act as go betweens maintaining the balance between Humanity and Nature - but sometimes nature fights back ...
Also in the central Zones a particularily expansive sect of cannibal zealots has formed and even the other humans are falling victim to their bloodthirsty god.
So the scenario could work...
